SUPPORT OUR MISSION
President's Letter
When we launched the Dry Eye Society of the Americas at the end of 2025, we did so with a clear and urgent purpose: to elevate dry eye disease as the serious, chronic condition it is—and to unite patients, clinicians, researchers, and industry around better outcomes.
In a remarkably short time, the response has exceeded our expectations.
Today, DESA is supported by more than 20 distinguished board members representing diverse disciplines across eye care, research, advocacy, and industry. Our community has grown to over 500 members—and continues to expand each week. This rapid growth reflects not only the prevalence of dry eye disease, but also a long-standing need for leadership, collaboration, and patient-centered advocacy in this space.
Dry eye disease affects millions of people across North America, yet it is still frequently misunderstood, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. For too long, patients have struggled in isolation—often dismissed or left without clear pathways to care. DESA was created to change that reality.
As we look ahead, our goals are both ambitious and essential.
We are committed to advancing education through evidence-based resources for patients and eye care professionals alike, helping to bridge gaps between symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. We aim to support innovation and research by fostering dialogue among clinicians, scientists, and industry leaders who are shaping the future of dry eye care. Equally important, we will continue to amplify the patient voice, ensuring that lived experience informs progress at every level.
DESA will also serve as a trusted platform for collaboration—bringing together stakeholders who share a common goal: improving quality of life for those affected by dry eye disease. Through our growing community, educational initiatives, and annual convention, we seek to accelerate awareness, access, and action.
The progress we have made since our launch is a testament to the passion and dedication of our members, board, partners, and supporters. While we are proud of how far we have come, we are even more energized by the work ahead.
Dry eye disease deserves attention, understanding, and meaningful solutions. Together, we are building a future where patients are heard, care is elevated, and outcomes are improved.
Thank you for being part of this important movement.
With gratitude and determination,
Dr. Rolando Toyos
President
